JOIN ME FOR A JOURNEY!

THE LIFE OF A SODA CAN

by Emily S.

WHERE IT STARTS Cans are made from aluminum (a-lu-mi-num). Aluminum is a natural resource. This means that it is found in the earth. Aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth. We have to dig into the earth, take it out and transport it to a factory.

AT THE FACTORY When aluminum gets to the factory it is processed, purified, cleaned and pressed into flat sheets. The sheets are then shipped to soda companies.

AT THE SODA COMPANY When the sheets arrive at the soda company, they are shaped into the cans that we drink from. The cans are painted with the company's name, filled with the beverage, sealed, and shipped to stores to sell to us, the consumer.

AT THE STORE AND TAKE IT HOME

We go to the store and buy our favorite soda, mine is Sprite.  We take it home and drink it. There are 2 things we can do with the soda can when we finish:   throw it away or recycle it.

If you throw it away, it goes to a landfill. It will stay there for hundreds or even thousands of years. However, if you recycle, it will be melted down into large sheets and reused again. This can be done over and over and over again.

Check out this video on the life of a soda can! It is totally awesome!

Now, that's a pretty cool life!!!

"Don't throw away your soda cans.  Recycle them with KIDS CAN."

REDUCE. RECYCLE. REUSE.  Help the planet. Help someone in need, too.

Peace,

Emily
